Three Stephenville men charged with impaired driving

Police arrested three people for impaired driving following traffic stops and reports of impaired driving in Stephenville.

In a Friday news release, Bay St. George RCMP said the first arrest happened on June 5, when police received a disturbance report at 10:30 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they saw a 32-yearold man who was showing signs of alcohol impairment and had been driving moments before, police said.

He failed his roadside sobriety test and was taken to the police station, where he gave more breath samples over the legal limit, police said.

On Tuesday, police received another report of a possibly impaired driver speeding on Hansen Highway in Stephenville around 3 p.m.

Police found the car and requested a 34-year-old driver to provide breath samples, which he failed, the RCMP said.

He was taken to the station and gave more samples, which showed alcohol concentration nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

Both drivers were released from custody to appear in court at a later date concerning their impaired driving charges. Police suspended both men’s licences and impounded their cars.

On Thursday around 10:15 a.m, police requested a truck driver on Prince Rupert Drive who almost collided with another vehicle on Silver Crescent to provide a roadside sobriety test.

A 63-year-old man failed the drug test and was taken to the station to give a urine sample for laboratory analysis to determine drug influence.

The man was released from custody and was issued a seven-day driving suspension, and police seized and impounded his truck.
