Seven new cases of COVID-19 in province

Newfoundland and Labrador reported seven new COVID-19 cases alongside several new flight advisories on Friday.

Five of the new cases reported in Friday's news release from the Department of Health and Community Services are in the Eastern Health region. Those five include a male 20-39 years of age, two males 40-49 years old, a male 50-59 years old and a female 40-49 years of age.

The other two positive tests Friday are in the Central Health region. One is a male 40-49 years of age. That case is related to travel within Canada.

The other Central Health case is a male under 20. The case is a close contact of a previous case.

The province also reported two new recoveries on Friday, leaving 63 active cases with the following regional breakdown:

• Eastern Health – 37

• Central Health – 11 • Labrador-grenfell Health – 3

• Western Health – 12

A positive case reported on April 23 that was under investigation in the Western Health region has been discovered to be a close contact of a previous case.

Four new flight advisories were issued Friday, including:

• Air Canada Flight 8990 that departed Halifax and arrived in St. John's on Thursday, April 29

• Air Canada Flight 8016 that departed Montreal and arrived in St. John's on Sunday, May 2

• Air Canada Flight 8016 that departed Montreal and arrived in St. John's on Tuesday, May 4

• Air Canada Flight 8016 that departed Montreal and arrived in St. John's on Wednesday, May 5.

Public health officials are asking passengers who travelled on the flights to arrange for COVID-19 testing.

There are no new presumptive positive cases and no one in hospital due to COVID-19 in the province.
