Projects are underway to add new accessible housing to three Nova Scotia Community College campuses to accommodate 350 students.

The province said construction is currently underway for new student housing at NSCC’s Akerley campus in Dartmouth and the Pictou campus in Stellarton. Those facilities are expected to open in September 2024. The province added construction of a new building at the Ivany campus in Dartmouth will begin soon, with an expected opening in September 2025.

The Akerley campus will have 100 beds, the Ivany campus will hold 200 beds and the new facility in Pictou will have 50 beds.

The Nova Scotia government is spending $112 million on the three projects.

In a news release, Premier Tim Houston said Nova Scotia’s population boom has increased the demand for housing, including for post-secondary education students.

“It’s great to see the progress being made on these projects, as they are an important part of our larger housing strategy,” Houston said in the release.

The new campus housing was part of the province’s housing and homelessness strategy, released in October 2021.
