EAST COAST MOMMY

GINA BELL

Halloween activity that entertains children and adults. Children can make paper puppets by tracing cookie cutters onto cardstock. Cut out and colour bats, ghosts and pumpkins.

Add googly eyes to the front of the puppets and popsicle sticks to the back. It doesn’t get much easier.

Adults can get creative too. Making a spooky wreath for the front door is a wonderful idea. Start with an inexpensive wreath form and add dollar store Halloween décor with hot glue. Use your imagination and have fun with it.

Setting up a Halloween “science lab” is another unique idea for family entertainment. This year, I made JackO-Lantern lava lamps with my boys. To enjoy this fun activity with your kids, start by using black electrical tape to add a Jack-O-Lantern face to a stemless wine glass. Then, half fill the glass with water and food colouring. (A few drops of red and yellow will give you the orange colour you want.) Pour oil on top of the coloured water and add an Alka Seltzer tablet. The Alka Seltzer reacts with the water and won’t mix with the oil, so it creates a cool lava lamp effect.

There are countless enjoyable ways to celebrate Halloween as a family. Whether you opt for traditional activities or you decide to try something new, enjoy your time together and stay safe. Happy Halloween!
