There are a wide range of program and events happening at the branches of Western Counties Regional Library in early August.

Here is a look at some of the offerings:

Grab-and-Go Bags

Aug. 3 to 14 during open hours

Stop by your local library branch to pick up an Acadian Heritage themed kit from Aug. 3 to 14. Kits are geared toward children in Grades 3 to 5, but can be enjoyed by all ages. Summer Reading Club

The library’s Summer Reading Club for children, teens and adults runs until Aug. 21, offering reading rewards. Children are asked to register online through the TD Children Summer Reading Club website at tdsummerreadingclub.ca/. For those without access to the internet, contact your local library. Teens and adults can sign up at westerncounties.ca or call the library.

Summer Reading Club Photo Challenge

Every two weeks, the library is posting a photo challenge on its webpage in August. Tag the library in Facebook or Instagram posts, send the library your photos via Facebook Messenger, or e-mail your local library branch. This program is for ages 13 and older. There are prizes.

Better Together: Collaborative Puzzle Art

Until Aug. 21 during open hours

Join others in creating a large wall puzzle, entitled Better Together, to be displayed in the library. Pick up a blank puzzle piece and decorate that piece to show what you love about your community! Pieces can be picked up during open hours and must be returned by Aug. 21.

Rock Photo Holder Tuesday, Aug. 10, 10 a.m.

Showcase your summer photos by creating this unique photo holder from kits at the library. Contact Barrington library to arrange to pick up a kit. This program is for ages 10 and older.

Until Aug. 20 during open hours

Children and youth can stop by the library to pick up this grab-and-go program. The kit consists of a small piece of foam board to draw on and decorate (with whatever medium the child or youth chooses) showing their favourite summertime activity. When finished, they can return it to the library where it will be displayed with all the other pieces

of art.

Mega Summer Book Sale

Until Aug. 28 during open hours

Digby library is having a book sale in the program room during open hours. Get some great summer reads. Prices range from 25 cents to $1. Bring your own bags. There is limited capacity in the program room, masks are required, and please social distance. Art Exhibit: Through My Eyes

Open hours in August

This exhibit features the work of Digby County artist Maxine A. Marshall. A retired teacher with more than 38 years of studying art and painting, Marshall enjoys combining colour in creative ways to make her work vibrant and alive with colour.

Reading of Fog Magic Throughout August

Digby library clerk Joanna Jarvis will be reading Julia Sauer’s book Fog Magic via video on Western Counties Regional Library Facebook Page and on the library’s YouTube Channel. Julia Sauer learned first-hand the magic of fog as she spent many days writing in her little cabin on Digby Neck, which may have been, in part, her inspiration for this book.

Big Summer Book Sale Open hours in August This sale is teeming with items for adults, teens and children, featuring books in French and English, DVDs, and magazines.

Yarmouth Toastmasters

The Municipality of Argyle will be rotating the StoryWalk,of The Thing Lou Couldn’t Do by Ashley Spires starting along Comeau’s Hill-La Roche St. Pierre Trail until Aug. 3 and at Wedgeport’s Parc des Jeunes from Aug. 4 to 10.

Scavenger Hunt

Aug. 17 to 21 during open hours

Pick up a clue sheet at the library and set out to find hidden painted rocks at various sites in and around Pubnico. This program is for all ages.
