PICTOU, N.S. - The Pictou County Chamber of Commerce is marking its 40th anniversary of representing local businesses with its upcoming annual general meeting on March 20.

Since it was founded in 1983 by Bruce Murray, Murray MacPherson, and Jim MacConnell, the chamber has had a significant impact on the community.

According to Jack Kyte, executive director of the chamber, the organization has been successful because of its focus on adding value to its members and its ability to advocate as the "voice of business" and champion for the community.

He also noted that the chamber has a unique level of independence as a memberbased organization, which allows it to stand up and be counted.

In addition to representing businesses, the chamber also collaborates with the government on promoting regulatory reform, supporting local physician recruitment and retention, diversity and inclusion initiatives, energy efficiency, First Nation reconciliation and the non-profit sector.

The employee benefit plans that the chamber offers to its members also play a key role in workplace attraction and retention.

The Chamber's AGM will take place at Glasgow Square Theatre at 11 a.m. and will be followed by lunch and a special presentation by executive director of the Aberdeen Health Foundation Michelle Ferris.
