Work on a new cultural hub that will include both the Pictou branch of the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library and the deCoste Performing Arts Centre is ongoing.

With the cost of good rising, some community members have wondered if the project is going to be delayed.

“Work has been ongoing. It's just not visible on the site. but very shortly on-site work will begin,” assures Eric Stackhouse, chief librarian for the PARL.

“We're just in the process of just finalizing some details with the contractors and we'll have a little more information in a couple of weeks.”

The Government of Canada is investing $6 million for this project. The Government of Nova Scotia is contributing $2 million.

The Town of Pictou, the Municipality of the County of Pictou, and the community at large are providing over $1 million.

This project is designed to support creative and cultural initiatives, recreation and active living programs while stimulating volunteerism and community development.

Stackhouse said the project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will focus on getting the deCoste Centre open, then soon after the library.

“We’re looking at a fall completion," he said.
