Pictou County Celtic Association hosting Celtic music workshop

MERIGOMISH, N.S. - The Pictou County Celtic Association is hosting a threeday Celtic-themed music workshop for youth in the community.

The workshop, which is being funded through the Betty MacDonald fund administered by the Pictou County Branch of Clan Donald, will be led by Frances MacDonald.

MacDonald teaches classes in guitar, piano, fiddle, highland dance, Gaelic, Gaelic colouring and the wool process, including carding, spinning, weaving and hooking.

The workshop will also include a trip to the Culloden Carin in Knoydart.

The music will include tunes from the Tribute Book of Tunes compiled by the Pictou County Celtic Association composed by Brenda Stubbert, Donald MacLennan and Dwayne Cote in honour of citizens and areas of Pictou County.

Lunch and snacks will be made from recipes found in the Pictou County Gaelic and English Cookbook.

The workshop will run from Aug. 5 to 7 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lismore Hall.
