PICTOU LANDING FIRST NATION, N.S. - A Pictou Landing First Nation man is facing charges in connection with the sexual assault of a minor alleged to have happened more than a decade ago.

In a Nov. 22 release, Pictou County District RCMP said on Aug. 13, officers received allegations of a sexual assault that happened around 15 years ago on New Year's Day.

Police said the complainant was around 11 or 12-yearsold at the time, and following New Year's Eve celebrations, she had gone to sleep for the night. RCMP said she was woken up in her bed by a man, who was around 20 or 21-years-old at the time, who sexually assaulted her.

On Oct. 28, 35-year-old Gary Daniel Denny was arrested without incident in relation to an investigation into the complaint. He has since been released on conditions.

Denny has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference and is scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court on Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m. to face charges.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Pictou County District RCMP at 902-4854333 or call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477.
