Man arrested after armed attack in New Glasgow

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. - New Glasgow police have charged a 19-year-old man with weapons and firearms offences after an armed attack on a woman in New Glasgow on Nov. 17.

In a Nov. 18 release, New Glasgow Regional Police said members received a report just before 9:30 a.m. that a man armed with a knife was chasing a woman on Dalhousie Street.

Police immediately responded, arresting the suspect at a nearby home on Temperance Street.

The woman was uninjured. The man was taken to Aberdeen Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a stab wound, and was later released into police custody.

Police said the man and woman knew each other, and the attack was not random. Police added there is no risk to the public.

The man is facing charges including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. He has since been released on conditions.

He is set to return to provincial court in Pictou on Jan. 31, 2021.

The investigation is ongoing.
