Pictou United Church puts on Halloween-themed concert

The Pictou United Chuch is putting on an eerie sight this Halloween season.

On Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., the church is holding a concert entitled Phantom of the Organ.

“We’ve been wanting to feature the organ after its major cleaning,” says Shelley Embree-Pos, a member of the church’s ministry of music.

Organ music goes hand in hand with the mysterious sounds of Halloween, so a Halloween-themed concert seemed like a fitting event.

The organ underwent a major cleaning before COVID, with all 1,011 pipes being taken out and cleaned.

“They were laid all over the pews while they were doing that,” says Embree-Pos.

She says there was a lot of dust and dirt in them. The organ was put in the church in the 1970s and had not been fully cleaned since.

Attendees can look forward to the Monster Mash, the Addams Family theme song and a duet from the Phantom of the Opera. Some of the performers include Wayne Rogers, Lloyd MacLean and Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity and the Pictou United Choir.

Admission will be by donation with a $10 minimum. Proof of vaccine will be required.
