RIVERSIDE LAND IN NEW GLASGOW SHOULD BECOME PARK

Something that is important in any town or city, for the well-being of the citizens, are green spaces and parks.

Sadly, New Glasgow doesn’t have much green space. Trenton has its park and Westville has its 20-year-old park, which is becoming quite nice.

Why I am writing this letter is there is now an empty lot of land in this town that would make a beautiful riverfront park. This lot is where the old Maritime Steel and land south of it is.

After the building debris and concrete foundation was removed, the lot is quite nice. This might be wishful thinking, I heard a local developer with aspirations of putting condos on it has it.

Back to this parcel of land, with nice planting of trees and flowering bushes and a garden or two, it would make a beautiful park and a wonderful asset in about 20 years. Becoming even nicer with age, especially if designed by a landscaper designer. There is already parking nearby. Anybody that wants more green space in town, make your feelings known to your councillors. Colin Skinner
