Go Green Get Clean 2021 saw over 28,000 lbs of litter collected

Thousands of participants helped make Pictou County a nicer and greener place to live last month.

The annual Go Green Get Clean event, hosted by Pictou County Solid Waste, took place over six days. With just over 3,500 participants, 28,660 pounds of litter was collected.

This is over double the amount collected during 2019’s two-day event.

Sasha Barnard, regional educator with Pictou County Solid Waste, says there were big clean-ups in the River John area, and in Caribou.

She also knows district three and five cleaned large sections of their districts as they were competing against one another to see who could collect the most litter.

Like years prior people reported finding a lot of fast-food wrappers, but they also reported finding a lot of masks.

“We are really happy with the turnout and we want to thank everyone who participated because it was such a great year, one of our largest years yet,” says Barnard.
