In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Channel-port Aux Basques has decided to suspend public access to all town facilities. The move is taken to further support the efforts of the federal and provincial governments to control the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing. The town will assess its ability to provide services on a daily basis. All public meetings and events hosted by the town are cancelled until further notice. Public access is suspended to the following facilities: • Town Hall • Municipal Depot • Bruce II Sports Complex – Hardy’s Arterial • Central Fire Hall and Social Centre on Marine Drive • Grand Bay Fire Hall • Railway Heritage Museum Essential services such as snow clearing, garbage collection, regular maintenance of infrastructure, etc. will continue for residents. Town staff will respond to calls for assistance in case of emergencies only. The Town of Channel – Port Aux Basques Volunteer Fire Department is not equipped for medical response. They are equipped to deal with firefighting services, accident/incident response and Hazmat control. Should you require medical assistance associated with the COVID19 pandemic, please call 911. The town also asks the general public to avoid visiting town facilities and to conduct business online or over the phone, where possible. The discount timeline for property and business taxes is extended until May 29, 2020, to accommodate residents and businesses.
