City to spend nearly $2.7 million on paving

P.E.I.’s capital has awarded two paving contracts worth a total of $2,691,898.3 to Island Construction Limited.

Council voted on the public works department’s street resurfacing resolutions — worth 1,242,446 and1,449,425.30 respectively — at a May 30 special meeting.

Tender proposals closed on May 8 for the first contract, and three companies put in bids. The second request for proposals closed on May 8 with two bidders.

Both resolutions note Island Construction was the lowest bidder, and the public works department has successfully worked with them in the past.

“(The department) is confident that Island Construction is capable of carrying out the work to the satisfaction of the city staff.”

Money for street resurfacing was set aside in the 20232024 budget.
