Malignity wins in 1:54.2

Time To Dance returns to the winner’s circle in Charlottetown

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – In line to Paul Langille, Malignity was superb in his Gold Division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway on May 28.

The $14,500 event for three-year-old pacing colts in Race 10 featured Malignity going to the lead and easing through opening splits of 29 and 58.3, before stepping on the gas pedal with a back half in 55.4 to win in 1:54.2 and break Saulsbrook Ian’s winning streak.

Saulsbrook Ian (driven by Corey Macpherson) finished 1 1/2 lengths back in second while Starship Glyde (David Dowling) was third. Langille trains the winning pacer for Debbie Francis and Rosanne Langille of Nova Scotia.

Elm Grove Restwind provided a mild upset in the other Gold Division for pacing colts as trainer-driver Dowling rallied from the backfield to win by three lengths in 1:57.4 over race favourite Fishermans Son (Danny Gillis) and No Boats On Sunday (Myles Heffernan Sr.). Brittany Dowling owns the pacer in partnership with Alex Quinn.

The $7,250 P.E.I. Colt Stakes’ Grassroots Divisions for three-year-old colt pacers were won by Proudofyatoday (Marc Campbell) in 1:58.1, Woodmere Knight (Murphy) in 1:59.1 and Starship Art (Patrick Shepherd) with a 1:58.2 mile.

Rock N Roll Cays won her $11,600 Gold Division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for threeyear-old pacing fillies for driver Ken Murphy in 1:56.4 over Woodmere Clara (Clare Macdonald) and Singing Ramona (Gilles Barrieau). Jeff Holmes trains the daughter of Tobago Cays for Hardcore Racing of Belfast.

Saulsbrook Mabel was the best in her $11,600 gold split in 1:55.2 in line to Gilles Barrieau for trainer Joe Baxter, who co-owns the mare with Saulsbrook Stables of Windsor, N.S. Elm Grove Redwind (Dowling) was second ahead of Howmac Jazzy Girl (Murphy).

Gosistersoulsister blew up the tote board in her fivehorse field in a Gold Division event in Race 3 action. Barrieau steered the filly to a 1:58.1 upset at 11-1 odds over Itsuptoyou (Campbell) and Rosetown Mary (Macpherson) for owners Group of 7 Stable of Charlottetown. The exactor paid $238.10, with a $692.20 winning triactor combination.

The fillies had $5,800 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots divisions won by Betternotmachme (Barrieau) in 2:00.2, Saulsbrook Abbey (Macpherson) in 1:58.1, Lookoveryour (Campbell) in 1:58.2 and Elm Grove Rustico (Murphy) with a 1:57.2 trip.

MAY 27 CARD

Time To Dance was in familiar territory May 27 as he landed in the winner’s circle in the Preferred Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Jason Hughes picked up the catch drive for trainer Marc Campbell in the $3,800 Preferred 1 pace and took advantage of the early break in stride by Post 3 starter and stablemate Roll Em (Driven by Campbell) who was heavily favoured When Roll Em went offstride, Time To Dance firmly grabbed the lead from Post 4 and went through fractions of 26.4, 57.1 and 1:26.2 before closing out in 27.4 for a 1:54.1 victory over pocketsitter Batterup Hanover (Paul Langille) with Avatar J (Gilles Barrieau) third. Time To Dance is owned by Brent Campbell in partnership with Brady Doyle, Kent Macdonald and Ryan Macleod. With Roll Em out of the tickets, the 4-1-2 triactor paid out at 351.20. A single 20 cent superfecta swept the entire pool.

Hughes had a driving triple on the night also winning with Montrose Hope (1:57.1) for trainer Wayne Hubbard and Leavin Bruises (1:57.1) for trainer Wade Myers.

Rollwithhottytoddy was the quickest on the evening as driver Campbell spun the Trevor Hicken trained and owned four-year-old around the legendary oval in 1:52.3 in race 9.

Captaintreacherous threeyear-old Now Showing remains undefeated on the East Coast after winning his third straight in Race 6 with a 1:55.2 trip for driver Corey Macpherson and conditioner Leith Waite.
