New turf for football field

CORNWALL, P.E.I. — Cornwall town council voted to replace the artificial turf surface on its football field at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.

Councilors voted unanimously at the monthly meeting Jan. 25. The town replaced the turf on its soccer field in 2018, and it is now time for the football field to be replaced, said Coun. Corey Frizzell when he read the motion.

It’s estimated the new turf will cost $1.375 million and will be funded by the Canada Community Building Fund, formerly the Gas Tax Fund.

The turf is expected to be replaced in 2023, and the Town of Cornwall will fund the ongoing operation and maintenance of the field.
