Phase II and Friends hosting Christmas fundraiser concert

CORNWALL, P.E.I. — Phase II and Friends will host a Christmas fundraiser concert at West River United Church in Cornwall on Dec. 4.

The band is hitting the church stage at 2:30 p.m. to perform traditional music and new songs by entertainers such as Gwen Steffani, Blake Shelton, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, BTO and Johnny Reid. The concert will raise money for the church.

Group spokesperson Gerry Hickey said the band prides itself on not doing the same old Christmas concert traditions.

“Our musicians are very capable and love to be challenged. They would be bored doing the same songs year after year. A song needn't be brand new to have a new feel, either,” said Hickey.

“Gwen Steffani has a new version of Jingle Bells, with just enough innovation to make it interesting. Randy Bachman, of BTO fame, wrote Christmas lyrics to the super hit Takin' Care of Business, changing it to Takin' Care of Christmas."
