Wild rallies to defeat Knights

Tompkins scores winning goal in shootout

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild overcame a twogoal deficit in the third period to defeat the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights in a shootout on Nov. 30.

The final score of the New Brunswick/p.e.i. Major Under-18 Hockey League game was 4-3.

Creegan Tompkins, with the game-winning goal, and Ryder Howatt scored for the Wild in the threeround shootout while Evan Nicholson countered for the Knights.

The win improved the Wild’s record to 4-5-2-1 (won-lost-overtime lossesshootout losses). The league-leading Knights fell to 13-2-0-1.

Both teams host games on Dec. 2 with the Northern Moose (5-8-0-0) visiting the Knights at 7 p.m., and the Wild playing the Fredericton Caps (8-8-0-1) at 7:45 p.m. Kensington also hosts the Saint John Vitos (7-6-1-1) on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Before a big crowd at the Bell Aliant Centre’s Arena B, the Wild led 1-0 after the first period, but the Knights scored three goals in the first 7:33 of the middle frame to take a 3-1 cushion into the second intermission.

Tompkins (1-1), who tied the game with 3:52 remaining in the third period, Colby Hudson (1-1) and Isaac Arsenault scored in regulation time for the Wild. Ethan Dickson (2) and Seamus Maceachern earned assists.

Ross Campbell (2-1) and Nicholson (1-1) answered for the Knights. Andrew Thompson, Carson Griffin and Jonah Macdonald chipped in with assists.

Rylan Aiken stopped 34 of 37 shots in regulation and overtime to earn the goaltending win. Hudson Bradley made 24 saves on 27 shots for the Knights.
