A LOOK AHEAD

Here is a look ahead at some of the happenings in P.E.I. for the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 5.

Theatre

The Confederation Centre of the Arts is announcing its 2023 Charlottetown Festival lineup Dec. 1. Although what will be on the stage next year remains to be seen, one show that won’t be produced is Anne of Green Gables – The Musical.

The festival’s artistic director, Adam Brazier, recently announced the musical will run every second year. In 2022 it returned to the mainstage after a two-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of this year’s festival’s other big productions was Tell Tale Harbour, which featured Great Big Sea singer

Alan Doyle.

Other shows produced for the festival included Betty’s Song and Hey Viola!

Parades

Santa Claus has a busy week ahead of him as he makes the rounds in P.E.I. for several Christmas parades. On Dec. 2, Summerside is holding its Santa Claus Parade in its regular format for the first time since the pandemic began. The parade runs 6-8 p.m.

For the first time since 2019, the parade will be following a route through part of the city. Last year’s parade had a reverse format with spectators driving by floats instead of the other way around.

In Souris, the town’s parade is Dec. 3 starting at 2 p.m. as part of the town’s Christmas festival.

Kensington is holding its Christmas parade Dec. 4 starting at 5 p.m. Following the parade, children can visit with Santa starting at 5:45 p.m.

Politics

The P.E.I. legislature's fall session will continue this week. MLAS are expected to debate supplementary expenditures of the provincial government.

This sitting, MLAS passed a revamp of tenancy law in the province, as well as a provision that would allow the province to restrict the planting of crops in fields where a plant pathogen, such as potato wart, has been detected.

The fall session is expected to conclude in the coming week. An election will take place in 2023.
