Knights split opening games

U18 Male Hockey League team starts season on the road

FREDERICTON – The Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights split a pair of seasonopening road games in the New Brunswick/p.e.i. Major U18 Male Hockey League over the weekend.

The Knights doubled the Moncton Flyers 6-3 on Oct. 1 and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Fredericton Caps on Oct. 2.

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild (0-0-0) did not play over the weekend.

At the Willie O’ree Sports Complex, Ben Cross, Jayden Burtt-munn and Darlen Thomson scored for the Caps, who are 1-1-0 (won-lostovertime losses).

Dawson Sharkey and Carson Griffin replied for the Knights. Matt Maclean, Finn Morris and Justin Smith drew assists.

There was no score after the first period, and the teams entered the second intermission tied 1-1.

Zach Bridgeo earned the goaltending win with a 24save effort. Hudson Bradley stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Knights.

KNIGHTS 6 FLYERS 3

At the Superior Propane Centre, Jonah Macdonald scored twice, Maclean contributed a goal and two assists and Kiefer Thompson made 37 saves to lead the Knights. Griffin, Owen Macpherson and Connor Pierce also found the back of the net for Charlottetown.

Thatcher Hughes (2), Evan Nicholson (2), Smith, Ryan Harper, Ross Campbell, Brennan Murphy and Kayden Mcguigan chipped in with helpers.

For the Flyers (1-2-0), Connor Sturgeon, Noah Collette and Liam Daigle found the back of the net.

Overall, the Flyers outshot the Knights 40-28. Loic Nadeau stopped 23 shots for Moncton.
