Panthers’ offensive struggles continue

UPEI women earn point while men’s team drops one-goal decision in AUS soccer action

The offensive struggles on the soccer pitch continued for the UPEI Panthers on Oct. 2.

The women’s team played to a scoreless draw against the visiting UNB Varsity Reds, and the Fredericton-based university edged the Panthers 1-0 on a late goal in the men’s game.

The results leave the UPEI women, who have scored one goal in five regular-season games, at 0-3-2 (won-losttied) and the men sit at 0-4-1 in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) regular-season play.

The UPEI men have scored three goals in the regular season.

The Panther teams are back in action on Oct. 6 when they visit Acadia. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s match at 7:15 p.m.

Keji Adeniyi’s goal in the 90th minute proved to be the difference as UNB improved to 3-1-1.

Louis-charles Vaillancourt earned the shutout. Evan Couturier was UPEI’S keeper.
