The Charlottetown location of P.E.I. Cannabis is closed following post-tropical storm Fiona, and home deliveries have been stopped.

The location was damaged in the storm and will remain closed until further notice, said the website.

Brad Mooney was out front of P.E.I. Cannabis when Saltwire Network was taking photos on Oct. 3.

He said he hadn’t heard anywhere that the store was closed.

“I just found out it was closed 30 seconds ago,” he said, from his truck.

He used to be in the military and uses marijuana medicinally. With the store closed, he’s now considering other options.

The P.E.I. Cannabis Charlottetown location was also the hub for home deliveries and is where the orders were filled.

The website said the corporation was unable to process orders for the time being.

For those able to travel, P.E.I. Cannabis Management Corporation stores are open regular hours in Montague, Summerside and O’leary.

STORM DAMAGE

Next door at Dow Mattress Gallery, Izaak Ford-dow, who was holding a water damage sale, said the roof was ripped off the three centre units in the plaza at 85 Belvedere Ave.

“But that wasn’t what caused the main damage. The main damage happened in the rainstorm the following day,” said Ford-dow, who runs the mattress business with his father, also the owner of the building.

“Once that rainstorm hit, since the roof was off, basically the water just completely poured through everywhere.”

All three stores received substantial water damage.

When asked what he could say about the damage to P.E.I. Cannabis, Ford-dow said, “They probably won’t be open for a while.”

In the meantime, he says people stop by regularly and try to enter, unaware the store is closed.

Saltwire Network contacted the P.E.I. Cannabis Management Corporation to speak to someone about the extent of the damage and alternate plans for home deliveries. Kip Ready, spokesperson for the Department of Finance, sent an email response because there was no one available for an interview.

"The team is working towards re-establishing the online service as soon as possible and identifying alternatives for on-site retail sales until a time power can be restored. A further update will be provided through CMC channels when available," Ready wrote.

Outside the cannabis store, as Saltwire was speaking to Mooney, another car pulled up and someone hopped out and tried the door.

They, too, were looking to replenish their medicinal marijuana but still had some at home.

“One per city doesn’t seem like enough.”
