PHOTO OF THE DAY

Pilot Derek Brown snapped this amazing photo above a towering cumulonimbus cloud over the Atlantic School of Skydiving drop zone in South Maitland, N.S., nearing the 10,000 feet jump run altitude. You can see incredible definitions within the cloud and the flat cloud, known as an anvil cloud. This cloud forms when the rising air within the storm hits a layer of air, stopping that upward motion and causing it to flatten horizontally, resembling an anvil if you see the cloud from the ground. Thanks for the amazing photo, Derek.
