Three deaths due to COVID-19

P.E.I. health officials are reporting three new Covid-19-related deaths over the past week.

The latest fatalities reported in the province's weekly pandemic update brings the provincial death toll from the virus to 52 since the start of the pandemic.

There are 19 people in hospital with COVID-19 as of Aug. 9, down from 27 reported on Aug. 2.

Of those, one was admitted due to COVID-19, and 18 others were admitted for other reasons and tested Covidpositive on or after admission.

The province also reported 776 new cases of the virus over the past seven days, meaning P.E.I. has an average of 112 cases per day.

Last week, there were 1,011 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, for an average of 145 new cases per day.

As of Aug. 8, there are COVID-19 outbreaks at Burnside Community Care, Andrews of Stratford, Prince Edward Home Red Rock Inn and Fox Meadow and the Atlantic Baptist Long-term Care Home.

An outbreak has also been reported in Unit 7 of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
