In Fox host Broussard dunked on over Toronto race remarks

Fox Sports personality-turned-demographer Chris Broussard doesn’t think NBA superstar Kevin Durant will want to play for the Toronto Raptors because of his race.

While Broussard says he likes Toronto — frequently proclaimed the most multicultural city in the world, the talking head appears to believe Canada’s largest city is a field of lily white.

“I don’t think KD will want to go to Toronto,” he said on FS1. “I’ve visited there many times, covering the league. Great city. But, it’s not America. And you feel it when you’re there. I’m telling you, especially as an Africanamerican.

“It’s a different situation than African-americans are used to being in. I’ve talked to people in that organization pre (GM Masai) Ujiri about, can they keep African-american superstars there?”

The Raptors are one of the teams in the running for Durant, who asked for a trade from Brooklyn last week.

Broussard noted that Tracy Mcgrady, Vince Carter and Chris Bosh all left the Toronto squad.

“I don’t think KD would be happy there, and that would be a problem,” Broussard wheezed on.

“That’s why, to Masai Ujiri’s credit, he’s made them an international team. The best players they have tend to be the international guys, or guys like Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry, who aren’t superstars.”

The response from anyone in the basketball world who has ever spent five minutes in the Big Smoke was laughter.

Former Raptor Rondae Hollis-jefferson was among those who scoffed on Twitter: “Yeaaaa this a stretch … Canadians love you like you grew up there … he’s tripping.”

“Toronto … literally named the most diverse city in the world,” tweeted Kel Wright, who makes content for the Memphis Grizzlies.
