Decent stretch of weather with a few bumps in the road

Everyone’s view of ideal summer weather is different, but as I look at the general pattern over the next seven days, I think most will be pleased with the pleasant temperatures.

The low-pressure system that kept the Maritimes soggy on Wednesday is now moving across Newfoundland with 30 to 60-plus mm for parts of central and western regions.

The trailing trough has left a lingering chance of showers over Cape Breton this morning, mainly the western half of the island. A building area of high-pressure has brought the return of sunshine with some clouds in the mix to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

A developing trough in the jet stream will be some unsettled weather for some this weekend.

A cold front will develop scattered chances of showers first across New Brunswick throughout Friday, with the chance of showers moving into Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Friday evening and night.

Right now, I expect most of this activity will depart by early Saturday morning with a return to sunshine. Still, there may be a lingering chance of showers over eastern Nova Scotia and eastern Prince Edward Island.

Newfoundland will have a chance of a spotty shower on Friday, but more scattered activity arrives on the west coast Friday overnight and continues for most of the island Saturday and Sunday. More widespread showers will persist over Labrador Friday through the weekend.

As I look into the longrange, the upper-level trough will weaken into early next week, followed by upper-level ridging from high-pressure over the Atlantic.

While plenty of sunshine is forecast, a few weak disturbances or fronts might try to spark some spotty showers, especially over N.L.

But all in all, not bad.
