Diefenbunker to get $600k facelift

OTTAWA – The Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War museum, located in Carp, will be getting a $600,000 facelift to upgrade the aging facility and further develop its exhibitions.

The announcement was made at the museum on Wednesday by MP Helena Jaczek, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (Feddev Ontario), and Kanata-carleton MP Jenna Sudds.

A total of $412,500, or slightly more that twothirds of the announced funding, will come through the Tourism Relief Fund, to develop exhibitions, including dedicated space to highlight the Indigenous experience during the Cold War, as well as support the addition of Algonquin to the tour’s audio guide languages.

The balance – $187,500 – will come via the Canada Community Revitalization Fund, and will go towards improving the museum’s accessibility, especially for those with visual impairments, and energy efficiency by upgrading its controls and lighting.
