A Charlottetown resident who drove drunk onto a lawn after sideswiping a parked vehicle has been sentenced.

Aysha Christine Dulisse, 18, pleaded guilty on June 30 in provincial court in Charlottetown and was sentenced to two days in jail. In addition, Chief Judge Jeff Lantz sentenced Dulisse to a $1,500 fine, a $450 victim surcharge and a one-year driving ban.

On April 12 at 2:15 a.m., Charlottetown police responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident on Euston Street, said Crown attorney Chris White.

Police reviewed E-watch video footage that showed Dulisse's vehicle sideswiping a parked vehicle and then driving onto the lawn of a residence. Dulisse was arrested and taken to the Charlottetown police station. Dulisse provided two breathalyzer samples of 170 milligrams (mg) and 160 mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg.

White noted that Dulisse was "quite belligerent" while dealing with police. Due to the high alcohol readings, Dulisse spent the night at the Provincial Correctional Centre.

Legal-aid lawyer Alex Dalton said her client is attending Holland College's Culinary Institute of Canada and working at a local restaurant. Dalton also noted that substance abuse is an issue for Dulisse.

Dulisse's mother was in court for the sentencing.

Dulisse was previously before the court in December and received a conditional discharge for a one-night graffiti spray painting spree that damaged several vehicles and buildings in downtown Charlottetown.
