One new COVID19 death reported

792 new confirmed cases

Health officials in P.E.I. are reporting one new Covid19-related death, raising the number of fatalities on the Island since the pandemic's start to 33.

The province's weekly COVID-19 update on Tuesday, May 17, reported that a person between the ages of 60 and 79 has died due to the virus.

Additionally, there are 22 people in hospital with COVID-19. Of those, six were admitted due to COVID19, and 16 were admitted for other reasons and were COVID positive on or after admission. None of the patients are in intensive care.

The province also reported 792 new confirmed cases since the last update on May 10, meaning P.E.I. has seen an average of 113 confirmed cases per day over the past week.

There are 1,139 confirmed active cases on the Island, and the province has reported 37,124 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Ten long-term care or community care facilities have outbreaks of COVID19, including Whisperwood Villa, Atlantic Baptist, Garden Home, Gillis Lodge, Beach Grove Home, Margaret Stewart Ellis, Andrews of Charlottetown, Charlotte Residence, Langille House and Bayview Lodge.

There are also outbreaks in Unit 2 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Western Hospital.
