TYNE VALLEY, P.E.I. – Fourteen Evangeline high school students worked together to donate thousands of dollars in food to the Tyne Valley branch of the West Prince Caring Cupboard (WPCC).

In a recent news release, RDÉE Île-du-PrinceÉdouard inc. said as a part of a class project, geopolitics students at the Evangeline school gathered a total

853 non-perishable food items worth a combined $2,019.79.

It worked out to almost triple the 2019 school food drive total of $767.37.

WPCC Tyne Valley branch coordinators Verna Barlow and Doug LeBlanc, along with WPCC board member Mary LeBlanc, helped the youth weigh all the boxes of food, check expiration dates, divide the food into categories and place them in the storage room.

The team members also explained to the students the process and rules to follow when receiving food and money donations and when people come to ask for food.

The school’s food drive collaborates with several francophone economic and social development partners, including the Provincial Credit Union, which sponsors a $100 prize for the class that collects the most food.
