Charlottetown Rural posts three playoff victories

KENSINGTON – The Charlottetown Rural Raiders won the 46th edition of the Kensington Intermediate-Senior High School (KISH) Volleyball Extravaganza recently.

The Raiders finished round-robin play in first place in the Green Pool, and then posted three playoff victories. The Raiders defeated Souris 2-0 (25-15, 25-7) in the quarter-finals, host KISH 2-0 (2513, 25-23) in the semifinals and, in the final, topped the Three Oaks Axewomen 2-0 (25-17, 25-20).

Three Oaks defeated the defending P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior AAA Girls Volleyball League champions Colonel Gray Colonels 2-0 in the other semifinal. Scores were 25-21, 27-25.

KISH defeated Colonel Gray 2-1 in the bronze-medal match. Scores were 20-25, 2523, 15-11.

Three Oaks finished first in the White Pool after roundrobin play.

The tournament, founded by retired KISH athletic director and volleyball coach John Bowness, traditionally attracts the top senior teams from P.E.I. and Nova Scotia, but this year the event was limited to nine P.E.I. teams due to COVID-19.
