The Benevolent Irish Society is set to host four talented P.E.I. musicians in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall for a ceilidh on Sept. 24.

In a Sept. 20 release, the Benevolent Irish Society announced that Breakwater with Taylor Johnson, Dan MacAulay, Nick van Ouwekerk and Justyn Thyme will be performing during the ceilidh inside the Irish Cultural Centre.

Johnson is a singer and songwriter from Vernon River, P.E.I., and has been playing music since an early age. A gym teacher by day, Johnson loves to sing sea shanties and learn about traditional maritime music.

MacAulay, also from Vernon River, P.E.I., plays the guitar and provides backup vocals for the group. MacAulay has been playing with Johnson around Charlottetown for 15 years, with a wide collection of sea shanties and East Coast music.

Van Ouwerkerk is an accomplished piper from Summerside who has competed with the College of Piping for nearly 20 years. Van Ouwerkerk has also added banjo, smallpipes and whistle to his musical arsenal. He made his Festival of Small Halls debut in 2018.

Thyme is an Island-born singer and songwriter who ceilidh organizers say distills his experiences of the world around him into songs that resonate with lessons learned. He released his single ‘Return Me' in February 2021, which is described as a delightfully uncomplicated folk song that wistfully evokes life on the Island.

The Friday, Sept. 24 event will be held at 582 North River Rd., with doors opening at 7 p.m. and music starting at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the event cost $15 at the door for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. A 50-50 draw will also take place at the event in the air conditioned and licensed hall.

Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis. More information is available by calling 902-314-8840.
