• The Egg Farmers of Prince Edward Island Close to the Ground Concert Series showcasing the roots music of P.E.I. with hosts Fiddlers' Sons and Keelin Wedge is every Thursday, 8 p.m., until Oct. 28, at Kaylee Hall, Pooles Corner, located at the intersection of routes 3 and 4 near Montague. • The Island Nature Trust is hosting a nature walk with the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra and the Indian River Festival (IRF) Oct. 2, beginning at the historic St. Mary's Church. After a brief musical offering, a bus will carry guests down a short country road to a trail maintained by the Island Nature Trust where participants can discover

stations with musicians playing live music during the 45-minute walk. Returning to St. Mary’s, guests will be guided to the Indian River pavilion for light refreshments and music by the P.E.I. Symphony. Tickets are $50 per adult and $15 per student/youth. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages are included, along with one alcoholic beverage for adults. Kitchen parties, ceilidhs, traditional music

• Terry Dunsford will host a kitchen party on Sept. 23, 7 p.m., at the Star of the Sea Seniors Club in Rustico. Dunsford, a well-known musician and singer, has entertained audiences across Atlantic Canada for many years. His lively renditions of a variety of genres has audiences clapping and tapping their toes. Joining him on stage will be Brian Blacquiere guitar, fiddle, banjo, vocals; Ian Hunter, bass, vocals; Brian Knox, drums and vocals. Admission is $15. There will be a 50-50 draw and a canteen. Please note, there is seating for 50 people.

• A ceilidh hosted by Mike Pendergast and Tom McSwiggan (with Andy Doucette, Shane Pendergast, Veronica Murray) is Thursdays at the Stanley Bridge Women’s Institute Hall, corner of routes 6 and 224 in Stanley Bridge, until Sept. 30, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Strawberries and ice cream are available at intermission. • The Ceilidh at the Irish Hall continues Sept. 24 with Breakwater (multi-instrumentalist Taylor Johnson with piper Nick van Ouwerkerk Justyn Thyme, and Dan MacAulay) performing. • Ceilidh in Kinkora is at Kinkora Place Sept. 26, 7 p.m. Admission is $10. Refreshments will be served. Literary/heritage events

• The Sir Andrew Macphail Foundation has announced that Soleil Hutchinson and her partner, Lauren King, will be this year’s presenters at the annual George McRobie Lecture. This ninth annual lecture will be held at the Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead, Orwell on Sept. 24. The McRobie evening begins at 6 p.m. with a reception offering a soup with biscuit ($6) and a cash bar, followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. The title of the lecture is Healthy thriving soils build healthy thriving communities. The Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead is located at 271 Macphail Park Rd., Orwell. Admission to the lecture is by donation.

• Kate Graham and former P.E.I. premier Catherine Callbeck will speak about Graham’s new book, Govern Like a Girl, during an inperson meet-and-greet at Confederation Centre Public Library in Charlottetown at 172 Queen St., Sept. 29, 12:30 p.m. On Oct. 1, 4:30 p.m., Callbeck and Graham will be at the Carriage House at Beaconsfield Historic House, 2 Kent St., Charlottetown, in front of an exclusive audience, to speak about the book and gender in politics. All in-person events are dependent on current COVID-19 regulations and will be cancelled if they cannot proceed safely.

Classes, lessons, practices

• The Heritage Social Dance Group at Beaconsfield has started its fall 2021 sessions, Wednesdays, 7 p.m., at Beaconsfield Carriage House, West Street, Charlottetown. The group focuses on dances that are from set dancing traditions popular in the 18th and 19th centuries and are still danced around the world. Classes are every Wednesday evening until early December. New dancers are welcome (a partner is not required but always appreciated), and no previous dance experience is needed. The Stratford Community Choir is looking for new members. The choir is under the direction of Kay Linkletter (conductor) and Stephanie Cole (accompanist). The Stratford Choir, a group of individuals from Stratford, Charlottetown, Argyle Shore and surrounding areas who love to sing and laugh, was formed over 20 years ago and still has some of the original members. Rehearsals begin Sept. 28 at the Mount in Charlottetown, (if COVID restrictions allow) and continue Tuesdays, 7-8:30 p.m. CPHO guidelines will be followed, and all choir members must be vaccinated. The choir is for members 18 years and over.

• The Confederation Centre Youth Chorus and the Confederation Singers, the adult choir at the Centre, are welcoming new members into the choirs during September and October. The choirs offer a unique musical experience focusing on vocal training, theory and performance.
