P.E.I. RCMP investigating Tignish house fire as arson

TIGNISH — A suspicious fire in Tignish on Sept. 21 has been deemed an arson, sparking a police investigation.

In a Sept. 22 release, West Prince RCMP said police responded to a morning report of a home damaged by a fire on Maple Street on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Police said officers learned the fire happened earlier that morning, around 3:30 a.m., but it was not immediately reported to the police.

Two people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured.

An investigation by the P.E.I. Fire Marshal’s Office deemed the fire an arson. Members of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Police ask anyone with information about the fire or any witnesses of suspicious activity around the time of the fire to contact West Prince RCMP at 902-853-4324 or tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
