Support systems extended for another year

Islanders with chronic illnesses can continue learning about healthier lifestyle choices via free lifestyle intervention programs.

In a June 9 news release, the provincial government announced they would be expanding the CHANGE and Exercise for Health programs for another year.

CHANGE is a 12-month inperson educational program led by a UPEI registered dietitian and kinesiologist offering personalized diet and nutrition plans.

Seven communities across the province, including Souris, Cardigan, Stratford, Charlottetown, Cornwall, Kensington and O’Leary, currently offer the program.

Exercise for Health is a six-week online program led by clinical exercise physiologist Katie Beck designed for Islanders living with conditions such as cancer, diabetes, COPD, and cardiovascular disease to learn safe ways to become more active.

Multiple group webinars are held and tailored to specific chronic diseases, which can be turned into from home.

“I am pleased to see these successful programs return for another year to spark long-term change and improve the overall well-being of Islanders,” said Health and Wellness Minister Ernie Hudson.

“These programs are led by incredible health care professionals who are working together to provide life-changing care to Islanders.”

Recreation P.E.I. will support the two programs through a one-year funding agreement with the province.

To register for the CHANGE program, contact 902-620-5156 or email CHANGE@upei.ca.
