MARTIN (NEE DICKIE), Lucinda

In Memory of Lucinda (Dickie) Martin June 13, 1926 - June 13, 2020

Mom peacefully passed away one year ago on the evening of her 94th birthday at Park West Lodge in Charlottetown. At that time, she was one of three remaining family members of the late Peter and Lucy McInnis of Earnscliffe. At a very early age she discovered her lifelong passion for reading. She attended Prince of Wales College and then taught school in various locations on the Island. In 1949, she married Lloyd, the love of her life. They had 58 years together. In 2018, she was reunited with their beloved firstborn, Terry, after 69 years. It brought peace and closure to that chapter of her life. She was not only our mother but mother to many others, including our friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed an ear. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Dad instilled many qualities in us. Humour, compassion, non-judgment, love of playing cards, story and joke telling, and love of family. She had many interests over the years - square dancing, going to dances on Saturday nights, playing 45's and Bridge were a few. She was a long time member of IODE and Vernon United Church and a member of the Mayflower Senior's Club in Stratford and made many lifelong friends. Despite losing two fingers on her left hand in a farm accident when she was eleven, she did not let it hinder anything she put her mind to. She was a beautiful seamstress, knitter, crafter, baker and chef. She made the best bread ever. Her main interest though was her family. She was always there for us and others along the way. Her heart was broken when we lost Clayton and it never quite healed. She was the matriarch of our family and we miss her wit, hugs and no-nonsense advice. Thank you to the staff of Park West, especially her two angels, for the excellent care you gave Mom. With COVID we couldn't be there for some of it but were able to be with her for the last few days. Her funeral was small and personal with just family and friends, the way she would have liked it especially no sermon or eulogy. Our lives have changed but we have so many beautiful memories to get us through. She was a remarkable person and loved by many. As she would say, the love of family and friends is what makes life worth living.

Rest in peace Mom.

Always loved - Pop (deceased), Terry, Barry, Clayton (deceased), Debbie, Donald and families.
