Top pacers ready to square off at CDP

The best pacers in “The Garden Of The Gulf” will reunite for their weekly meeting Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The featured class is carded as Race 10, with the first-race action kicking off at 6 p.m.

Mc Pat has rail control in the $3,200 preferred pace as the Gilles Barrieau-trained-and-driven pacer has yet to taste defeat on Canada’s eastern seaboard in three starts for owners Everette Hanson and Donald Stevenson of New Brunswick. The fiveyear-old son of Delmarvalous has been superb in all his outings, including a 1:55.2 victory his latest start, but faces his toughest test to date with the heavyweights of Island racing.

Gold Cup and Saucer-champion Time To Dance has Post 3 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell as the morning-line favourite while last week’s feature winner, G A Speed Sammy, has Post 5 on the starting gate with David Dowling in the bike. Avatar J scored a pair of wins in this class earlier in the season and will get Kenny Arsenault again from Post 4.

Rose Run Quest again rises to the preferred level with Post 2 and Corey MacPherson at the lines.

Panimal Kingdom rounds out the field from Post 6 with Ronnie Matheson getting the catch-driving call from trainer Colin Johnson.

Peter MacPhee’s Post Time Picks sees Time To Dance bouncing back to his winning ways in his third start of the season.

“Time To Dance had to come first-over last week and paid the price finishing fourth to GA Speed Sammy,” MacPhee said. “This is his third start back from the layoff, and we think he finds his A-game and that first win of 2021.”

Sock It Away is the top choice in the Race 7 back-up pace carrying a $2,700 purse. Campbell is scheduled to handle the reins for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Other top choices in that event are Cowboy Logic (to be driven by Steven Shepherd) and Burn Out Hanover (MacPherson).

In accordance with Public Health Guidelines, customers can come see the action live at Red Shores Charlottetown on the tarmac, or in the grandstand and simulcast theatre with no reservation on a firstcome, first-serve basis with limited capacity.

To reserve a table for racenight dining at Turf’s Bar and Grill or Top Of The Park, call the reservation line at 1-902-620-4264. Customers can purchase their tickets on track starting at noon Saturday at both Red Shores locations.

The Race Day broadcast can be found at Redshores. ca with wagering at HPIBet. com.
