Ship’s Company Theatre offerings this summer

DAYBOIL

Ship’s Company Theatre premieres Dayboil by Newfoundland and Labrador playwright Sharon King-Campbell, running July 27 to Aug. 7. The award-winning script examines the fragile and fraught relationship between two sisters and what happens after a shocking turn of events. Directed by Samantah Wilson.

THE PRINCESS SHOW

HEIST’s award-winning multimedia extravaganza takes audiences into a world where anime heroes, bass guitarist rock stars and dance pop epics meld into ones. Staged July 15 and 16.

NESTUITA’SI STORYTELLING KOQM

By shalan joudry, this is a journey through time and land to experience the voices of fictional L’nu (Mi’kmaw) women. Staged Aug. 11 to 14.

SHIPWRIGHT SESSIONS

Opportunities to hear excerpts of works from the playwrights with an up-close look at the writer through mini-interviews with Ship’s artistic director Richie Wilcox. This season’s sessions will feature

Santiago Guzman, Sharon King-Campbell and Jiv Parasram.

SHIPWRIGHT RESIDENCY

The Masstown Market Shipwright Residency gives an Atlantic Canadian BIPOC artist time and space in Parrs boro to create/write/be inspired. The residency also comes with dramaturgy, mentorship and a workshop.

MUSIC SERIES

The summer season will open with a special concert paying tribute to great harmony bands such as Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas & the Papas, and Simon & Garfunkel. On July 9 and 10, Ship’s will showcase the award-winning family band trio The Gilberts in Harmonious. Fiddles & Feet are on July 22-24. The music series is rounded out by a special presentation of the Kitbag Theatre production The Songs of Johnny & June, a tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter featuring a five-piece band. The tribute has two shows Sept. 3 and 4.

FAMILIES AND YOUTH PROGRAMS

There will be week-long drama camps and a week of pay-what-you-can performances of all-ages puppet plays as Ship’s brings North Barn Theatre’s The Gorgon’s Tale to parks in the community and neighbouring towns as part of their Picnic Play Series. In September, Ship’s presents Legacy Circus: The World at Our Feet. Here, Erin Ball and Vanessa Furlong of Legacy Circus discover how full life is when you have so many different feet to choose from.

The World at our Feet is a contemporary circus story featuring aerial wheelchairs, circus prosthesis, stilts, trapeze, silks and more.
