It is hard to believe is it late November! Time certainly does fly.

The recent beautiful autumn weather has made getting outside, cleaning up from hurricane Fiona and all the end-of-summer chores we have to do feel a bit easier. The activities and community events are continuing to roll along here in Brookfield. Perhaps you will want to join some of our events. Our local churches and the elementary school are very busy. Check out what they are doing this month.

At Brookfield Elementary School, their home and school committee is holding a poinsettia fundraiser in support of outdoor playground toys and extra activities that are held throughout the school year. They are selling 7” red poinsettias, with or without sparkles, from Forest Glen Greenhouses in Brentwood until Nov. 24. They are one for $16 or two for $30 and delivery will be on Dec. 2 to the school.

If you would like to purchase and support our local elementary school, email homeandschoolbes@gmail.com or call the office at 902-6735050 to place your order.

The school is also looking for gently used skates to add to their inventory for when students go skating at the

Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in the village. Not all students have their own skates and the need for upper elementary sizes are always needed. If you have a pair or two hanging around that your children have out-grown I know the school would be very appreciative.

Buying brand new skates isn’t in the home and school budget so donations would be very much welcomed. I’ve been on this committee for eight years and I see how hard the committee works to bring smiles to the students’ faces and to provide special activities for them. Thank you to all who support BES and to our dedicated volunteers.

The Knox United Church is happy to announce the return of the popular Christmas House Tours on Nov. 25 and 26. This year’s theme is Festival of Trees and Stockings. You may have noticed the tours were put on pause during the last few years during the pandemic. We are excited to welcome this event back. It’s a great way to start the holiday season and get in the Christmas spirit.

Both Knox United and Middle Stewiacke United churches, the train station and two local homes will welcome visitors to see their wonderful decorations.

In Middle Stewiacke, a local family’s home will have an outdoor display of Christmas lights for everyone’s viewing pleasure. The Middle Stewiacke Church will also have a pantry table set up in addition to their decorated sanctuary. At Knox there will be a craft sale and free drives offered from the church parking lot.

The tickets for the house tours are $15 and on sale at MacQuarries in Brookfield or by calling 902-673-2582. In addition, at the train station each night there will be a light meal and dessert offered for $10. Call 902-673-2333 for tickets for the dinner. This weekend is always such fun with people from all around our area coming to celebrate with us. Hope you can join, too.

Mark this next event on your calendar. On Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. a hymn sing will be held at the Middle Stewiacke United Church. The music will be provided by the very talented Tim Ross and friends. With a donation of $20 you can choose up to three songs to dedicate to a loved one, past or present. What is your favourite hymn?

If you love to sing or just want to come and listen to some lovely hymns of days gone by call Doris at 902673-2551 or email Linda at quiltlinda@hotmail.com to make your song selections. There will also be a free-will offering at the door. This is sure to be a lovely evening of song and spirit! People of all denominations are welcome to come and hear some beautiful music in a lovely sanctuary setting.
