Eagles’ Squires up for CHL award

Cape Breton Eagles’ Cam Squires has been nominated for the Canadian Hockey League’s humanitarian of the year award for the 2022-23 season.

Squire is the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s nominee for the award for his community involvement in working with the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Breton.

The Charlottetown product also created the Squires Squad, which donated four Eagles season tickets to the youth-oriented, non-profit charity to allow families to attend the team’s games in 202223. Squires, who won the league's humanitarian of the year award last month, will join Kamloops Blazers' Logan Stankoven as well as North Bay Battalion's Dalyn Wakely as the nominees for the award.

The CHL awards ceremony will take place on Saturday at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C., as part of the Memorial Cup events.

On the ice, Squires had a breakout season for the Eagles, posting career highs in goals (30), assists (34) and points (64) in 67 regular season games. He added six assists in four playoff games.
