Mikita’s career totals are 541 goals and 926 assists. Crosby has played in 240 less games than Mikita.

Crosby assisted on a thirdperiod goal in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals and longtime rival Alex Ovechkin.

has played in 168 more games than Crosby.

Crosby can pass Mikita when the Penguins host the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.

Crosby will probably have to wait until next season to move any higher on the alltime scoring list with Paul Coffey of Edmonton Oilers’ fame 64 points ahead in 14th spot at 1,531 points.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Wayne Gretzky tops the scoring chart with 2,857 points, followed by Jaromir Jagr (1,921), Mark Messier (1,887), Gordie Howe (1,850), Ron Francis (1,798), Marcel Dionne (1,771), Steve Yzerman (1,755), Mario Lemieux (1,723), Joe Sakic (1,641), Phil Esposito (1,590), Ray Bourque (1,579), Joe Thornton (1,539), Mark Recchi (1,533) and Coffey.

Crosby is also well on his way to adding to his streak of consecutive seasons with at least a point per game. With 58 points in 48 games, the 35-year-old Cole Harbour native is on pace to finish with at least a point per game for the 18th consecutive time in his career.

Only Wayne Gretzky stands above him with 19 consecutive seasons of a point per game.
