HOLLIHAN, Barbara Ann

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother Barbara, aged 87, on Monday, January 23, 2023, in Haliburton Place Long Term Care, Windsor, N.S. Born December 9, 1935, in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the only daughter of the late Marjorie Sweet Penny and Richard Oswald Mclean. As a teenager she moved with her family to St. John’s where she attended Prince of Wales High School. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Michael J Hollihan. In her early 30’s she embarked on a new adventure with a move along with her family to Halifax. She attended MSVU where she completed her Bachelors of Arts in Criminology. She would go on to be the bookstore manager at MSVU for over 20 years. She had a deep love of books, history and continuous learning. She was an exquisite embroiderer and quilter. She travelled the world extensively with her husband Mike. She loved country music and Nashville, Tennessee as much as she loved traveling the Middle East and Europe. She adored fashion and fine things and was the true epitome of grace and style. She had a tremendous devotion and love for her dogs. But of all her attributes most of all she loved her family and loved having them with her. Family gatherings were her favourite. She was known lovingly by all her family simply as “Barb.” She leaves to mourn her son, Rick Hollihan (Doris), grandchildren, Evan, Senna, Gavin; daughters, Susan Mackay (Ron), granddaughters Erin Kingsbury (Ryne), Anna Safaya (Karn); Karen Romkey (Peter), granddaughters Emma Elensky (Thomas), great-grandchildren, Ethan, Sadie, Finn; Abby Metcalf, great-granddaughter, Zoey. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Snows Funeral Home, Halifax. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. We the family would like to thank the staff at Haliburton Place for their care of our mother. To leave an online condolence please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
