JAMES, Joanne Margaret

Age 79 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in the VG Site, QEII Hospital on January 19, 2023. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late James and Vinetta Lahey. Joanne grew up in Dartmouth, and worked as a secretary until she had her three children in three years, deciding then to give up her work to raise her children. Joanne spent many years cheering them on at cold hockey rinks and hot ball fields, never complaining and always in full support of the many sports her children took part in. She loved Elvis, lilacs and all sports, her favourites were golf and bowling and she could often be found in her favourite chair enjoying a tournament from start to finish. Joanne was a big reader and loved to sit and read on her balcony overlooking her beloved Lake Banook. Joanne is survived by sons, John, Tony (Tracy); daughter, Cindy (Corey Busby); grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Aaron James; brother, Ted Lahey; sisters-in-law, Melody Leahy, Georgina Lahey. She was predeceased by brothers, Jack, Richard, Clifford, Jim, Donald; sisters, Ethel Falco, Lillian Wilkinson, Grace Muise, Dorothy Shunahan, Geraldine Lahey. Joanne’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to her very best friend, Nancy Manuel, and her husband Bill, for a lifetime of kindness they showed Mom, we will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank the staff on 5B and Palliative Care at the VG Site for their compassionate care, you are all angels. Although she was not there very long we would also like to extend our deep appreciation to the staff at Melville Gardens for their kindness and care of Mom.
