‘No foul play’ as police investigate discovery on North Mountain

The death of a person whose remains were found on the North Mountain in Kings County is not considered criminal in nature, RCMP say.

The remains were discovered by someone deep in the woods off Russia Road near Black Rock on Friday morning at about 11:30 a.m.

“Based on the investigation, the death is not believed to be suspicious,” Cpl. Chris Marshall said.

The office of the medical examiner has been called to assist in the investigation. The person is believed to have died some time ago and the death is considered historical, Marshall said, but he didn’t have a range of time except that it was not several decades.

“It would be recent enough, but it wasn’t yesterday,” he said.

There were no outstanding missing person reports in the area, Marshall said. Police have an idea of the person's identity and are waiting on confirmation from the medical examiner.

“Right now it’s just a sudden death investigation that we’re operating to assist the medical examiner’s office, but there’s no foul play or anything suspicious at this point,” he said.
