TOMS (Long), Edith Elizabeth

Passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022, after a brief illness surrounded by her family and her extended Alderwood family. Born in North Sydney in 1925, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Edith (Cantwell) Long. She is survived by her son, John (Carol) Toms, Ontario; daughter, Carol (Doug) Smith, Ontario; son, Shane (Kaye) Toms, Baddeck; six grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and one great great-grandson; many nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her loving sister, Blanche (Long) Williams, Lower Sackville; and sister-in-law, Anna Long, Baddeck. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Toms; by her parents; brothers, Alex (Sadie), Kilmer (Anne), Clarence; sister, Muriel (Harry) Carmicheal; daughter-inlaw, Pauline (Mels) Toms; granddaughter, Alicia Toms; sister-in-laws, Helen (Toms) Macneil and Ruth (Toms) Judson; and brother-in-law, Len Williams. Edie was a quiet, loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Her children and grandchildren gave her so much comfort and happiness. We will always remember the twinkle in her eyes. We want to thank her Alderwood family for the kindness and love you showed to “Nanny” during her stay with you. A private burial will take place at St. Andrews Cemetery in Baddeck Forks at a later date under the direction of Macaskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. Donations may be made to the Alderwood Memorial Fund.
