MURPHY, Ronald James

Died peacefully at home in Purcell’s Cove on Friday September 30, 2022. A lifelong Haligonian, Ron was born to Josephine and Thomas Murphy on May 21, 1934, the youngest child of a loving and faithful family. Ron nurtured many lifelong friendships in school, in the community, and at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS), where he enjoyed a long career as a millwright. Early in life, Ron had the great fortune to meet Grace Conrad. He quickly fell in love and wooed her with the focus and dedication that marked Ron's character. Ron and Grace enjoyed 67 years of married life together. Ron focused his unflagging energy and good cheer on his family. He was the model of a loving husband, a devoted father and beloved grandfather. Generational memories were created during the many summers the family enjoyed on Caribou Island. His parents, his siblings and their families were always welcomed to share in the beauty of this special place in Ron’s life. A true Bluenoser, Ron kept a keen eye on the tides. When there were clams to be dug, Ron, like a naval commander, would press all available hands into action. He took great pleasure in the outdoors and was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Ron also enjoyed a lifelong enthusiasm for cars, a passion he shared with his colleagues at the engineering school, and with his wife and sons. Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Grace; his sons, Stephen (Eileen), Bruce (Cheryl), and Craig (Tammy); his grandchildren, Gavin (Jess), Ian, Jan, Leah (Trevor), Shane, Justin, and Kristen (Pierce); his greatgrandchildren, Kaya, Paisleigh, and Easton; his sister-in-law, Leona Murphy; along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Harold and Jack; and his sister, Lorraine. Funeral arrangements are in the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. As a COVID-19 precaution, there will be no visitation. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Thursday, October 6th, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, Halifax; a reception to follow. Donations in Ron’s memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. To place an online condolence please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
