BOSCOE (Crooks), Delphine Angilla Melissa

It is with much sadness and a great sense of loss that Delphine's girls announce her flight to Heaven on May 15, 2022 at 2:14 p.m. in Dartmouth General Hospital after a decline in health and mobility over the last year.

Born on Big Tancook Island to Mabel (Baker) and Willis Crooks, she was a Taurus and as stubborn as they come.

After spending the first nine years of her life on Tancook, she and her family moved to Halifax to fight the war. A big change for her mom, dad and her three brothers! Summers were spent on Tancook staying with her maternal grandparents Melissa (Levy) and Hibbert Baker, but often visiting with her Aunt Ena (Baker) and Uncle Lawrence over in Southeast Cove with her Wilson cousins.

Delphine left home at the age of 19 in 1952 to join the R.C.A.F. Hitch-hiking everywhere in uniform with her Air Force buddies, she enjoyed her years of adventure. Then Del met Earl Boscoe, who was also in the R.C.A.F. and the romance was on! They married in 1955 after six months of a whirlwind courtship and Del traded in her uniform to begin her new lifelong career as wife to Earl and eventually mother to their three spectacular daughters.

Moving every year and a half to a new posting, Del became an expert packer and unpacker of the entire Boscoe household, making each new PMQ or apartment “somewhere” a home in short order. Earl often said he was glad he married Delphine, a true Nova Scotia girl at heart because he always had somewhere to go on vacations. Finally, in 1973 the family's last posting saw them settled in Dartmouth and Del sheltered in place until her illness forced her into hospital just days after her 89th birthday party.

To Delphine, family was everything. She liked being the family's matriarch. She loved each one of us, no matter how much we annoyed her. No matter where she lived, Nova Scotia was always home. She enjoyed the family vacations spent at the old David Crooks homestead on Tancook and in later years reveled in renting Harley's house with its amenities like running water and electricity. She was looking forward to this year's Tancook vacation in July and especially wanted to visit the church of her childhood, Tancook Island United Baptist Church.

Delphine was predeceased by her parents, Mabel (1996) and Willis (1985) Crooks; her beloved husband, Earl Boscoe (2013); “baby” sister and best friend, Sharon (Charles Sleigh), (2020); son-in-law, William Al-molky (Sherry) (2012).

Left to mourn Delphine's passing are daughters: Sherry Friis, Dartmouth; Shelly Boscoe, Woodville; and Sharon Summers, Wenatchee, Wash., USA; much-loved granddaughter, Amanda Friis, (Nicholas Phair), Dartmouth, who was at her bedside when she passed; precious and joyous greatgranddaughter, Melissa Phair, of whom she was so proud and loved dearly; brothers: Gerald (Joan), Mississauga, Carroll (Ellen), Dartmouth; Rodney (Carol), Mississauga; “little” sister, Diane Crooks who is another stubborn Taurus, Halifax; brotherin-law, Charles Sleigh, Lower Sackville: and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom Delphine considered beloved family members, each and every one of them.

Delphine's girls would like to thank all the ambulance attendants who were so kind, gentle and patient with their mother, all the doctors and nurses at Cobequid Medical Center and at Dartmouth General Hospital who cared for their mother so well over the last few months. An extra special thanks to Dr. Kimmel who cared for Delphine and her family so kindly and with such compassion during her last days.

It was Delphine's directive that there be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

If so desired, charitable donations can be made to honour Delphine's memory to Tancook Island United Baptist Church, Box 40, Big Tancook Island, NS B0J 3G0, or any charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cole Harbour Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd. Online condolences may be sent by visiting: www.coleharbourfuneral.com
