Halifax Regional Police say a woman who was stabbed in Spryfield early Tuesday morning has died of her injuries.

Police were called to the intersection of Sylvia Avenue and Herring Cove Road at about 12:45 a.m. and found the 37-year-old woman with serious injuries. She was rushed to hospital by paramedics but died of her injuries.

Police say they don’t believe the stabbing was a random incident.

Const. John Macleod said mid-afternoon that he didn’t expect to have any more information to release until Wednesday. Investigators hadn’t given him a suspect’s description, whether police have a suspect in mind, or if there have been any arrests.

Herring Cove Road was shut down between Greystone and Hilden drives until about 9 a.m. People in the area said police had placed orange evidence cones in the parking lot of a convenience store at the intersection of Sylvia Avenue and Herring Cove Road.

By early afternoon, a white vase with some flowers in it had been placed on the concrete island in the middle of Herring Cove Road, where a crosswalk leads from the store parking across the four-lane street. There was no note or card with the vase.

A clerk at the store said the woman was a regular customer, who would come in for pop and other items. A customer scratching lottery tickets said he knew the woman and she “didn’t deserve what happened to her.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Halifax police or Crime Stoppers.
