Redblacks fire GM Desjardins

It didn't surprise Marcel Desjardins when Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group president and CEO Mark Goudie walked into his office, on the lower level of the south side of TD Place, just after 6:30 a.m. Monday and fired him from his job as general manager of the struggling Ottawa Redblacks.

Desjardins, the architect of a team that went to three Grey Cups in four seasons, winning in 2016, accepted responsibility for his team's 2-9 start to the 2021 season which follows a 3-15 2019 season. But he also had some things to get off his chest.

“I told him he was making a mistake,” said the 55-year-old Desjardins, who was the team's first football employee, hired as general manager Jan. 29, 2013. (Postmedia)
